During the month of May, artist Lishan Chang will be onsite producing and installing an exhibition in the Everist gallery of the Washington Pavilion for the Arts and Science featuring his concept, “LC Bakery”. The name, LC Bakery, full name is Lishan Chang Bakery, also refers to the working studio he used for producing charred bread and artistic creation. The charred bread produced by LC Bakery received a new identity called BLACKERY, anagram of LC Bakery, which is used as basic building blocks (basic mediums) for all works produced by LC Bakery. The installation will include thousands of “blackery” as well as large format photographs and a scent and sound gallery.

Born and raised in Taiwan, Lishan Chang moved to New York City in 1997. In an artistic career that stretches over a decade, his works have been shown in many solo as well as group exhibitions. More recently, he has won fellowships from the Council of Cultural Affairs in Taiwan, the Franconia Sculpture Park/Jerome Fellowship 2007, the Freeman Fellowship 2008 as well as NYFA Fellowship 2008. Chang has been an artist in residence at the Workspace Program of LMCC in NYC, SUMU/Titanik in Finland, and The International Studio & Curatorial Program in NYC. In addition to abandoned factories, parks, and many other public locations around the US and Taiwan, his works have been seen at venues including the Socrates Sculpture Park in NY (2007), Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts in Taiwan (2007), Franconia Sculpture Park in MN (2007), Washington Pavilion of Arts & Science in SD (2007), Gallery Korea in NY (2007), Walsh Library Gallery in NJ (2007), and the Queens Museum of Art in NY (2004).">http://www.changlishan.com/>
