the first thing catches my eyes is the skew, wobble artifact, I just looked up the spec of iphone. the camera is cmos sensor. obviously, the rolling shutter artifacts are very pronounced. Personally, I would think if it was shot by a film cam, they can get a very solid track even without those rigs. I assume they built up the rigs to help to get the camera solved. reconstruct the env in 3d tool or 2d tool such as nuke with 3d capability. and applied those artifacts back to the CG elements. it's just my guess. over all, it's a very interesting project and quite challenging. Thanks for sharing.
